Today in the framework of the exhibition on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality was signed a number of strategic documents to expand cooperation in public health between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN development Program (UNDP).

In particular, the parties launched three new projects:

  • Purchase of medical supplies to fight tuberculosis (TB) and other infectious diseases in 2021-2023;
  • Support in the fight against non-communicable diseases (NCDS) in Turkmenistan in 2021-2022;
  • A new stage of cooperation between the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, the Ministry of health and medical industry of Turkmenistan and the UNDP for the prevention and control of tuberculosis and other infectious diseases for 2021-2024.

Turkmenistan, with the support of UNDP, has achieved significant results in this area since the launch of the Global Fund grant allocated in 2010 to fight tuberculosis in the country.

As a result of the successful partnership, the government has significantly increased allocations to the tuberculosis control program through UNDP, according to a UNDP press release.

Natya Natsvlishvili, acting UNDP Resident representative in Turkmenistan:

"UNDP is a well-known reliable partner of the government of Turkmenistan in the field of prevention of infectious diseases. We are proud that our cooperation in the field of public health encompasses a new area of non-communicable diseases. This demonstrates the effectiveness, transparency and accountability of UNDP, especially during a global pandemic."
