A workshop was held in Turkmenistan to prepare a Common core document for UN Treaty bodies

A two-day online workshop on the preparation of a Common core document for UN Treaty bodies was held jointly by the UN development Program (UNDP) And the Institute of state, law and democracy of Turkmenistan.

The seminar was attended by 20 representatives of The working group of the Interdepartmental Commission on ensuring Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law.

The workshop was aimed at discussing and preparing a revised Common core document to be submitted to the UN Treaty bodies in December 2020. The common core document should include updated General information on the political, legal, social, economic and cultural context in which the country ensures respect for human rights.

The seminar was held as part of a joint project of the UNDP and the Institute of state, law and democracy "Promoting the implementation of the National human rights action plan for 2016-2020".
During the workshop, participants discussed the principles of preparing a Common core document, reviewed requirements and examples from other countries, as well as information needed for inclusion in this document.

UNDP international human rights expert Georgy Tugushi:

"This process will greatly contribute to the development of a comprehensive Common core document on human rights in accordance with the agreed reporting guidelines of international human rights instruments. This will play a positive role in strengthening the entire process of reporting to UN bodies, " he said.

In 2016, the working group of the Interdepartmental Commission on ensuring Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law has already prepared and submitted to the UN Treaty bodies a Common core document on human rights. The working group meets regularly to discuss and ensure the reporting and implementation of recommendations from UN Treaty bodies.
