There is a positive trend in relations between Russia and Turkmenistan. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Andrey Rudenko, speaking at a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs, which considered the issue of ratification of the agreement on cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan in the field of security.

Rudenko noted the difficult situation in the region, and in this regard pointed to the importance of this agreement.

The diplomat stressed that positive dynamics in relations between Russia and Turkmenistan are observed in many areas. As an example, the Deputy Foreign Minister cited the humanitarian aid sent by Turkmenistan to the Astrakhan region in may in the amount of 1 million US dollars.

"Turkmenistan is probably the only country in Central Asia that provided humanitarian aid to Russia during the pandemic," he said.

The agreement between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan on security cooperation was signed in Moscow on April 10, 2003.

In August, this document was submitted to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, and on October 21, parliamentarians ratified the agreement. On October 24, the document was in turn ratified by the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.
