Diplomats of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the French Republic took part in the opening ceremony of the 8th session of the General Assembly of States parties to the 2003 UNESCO Convention on the preservation of the intangible cultural heritage. This is reported by the website "Turkmenistan: The Golden age".

The agenda includes issues related to the use of funds from the intangible cultural heritage Fund, protection of intangible cultural heritage objects in emergency situations, revision of the provisions of the Operational guidelines for the implementation of the Convention, etc. During the current session, new members of the UNESCO intergovernmental Committee for the protection of the intangible cultural heritage will be elected.

Turkmenistan joined the UNESCO Convention in 2011 and has been one of its most active parties ever since. This is evidenced by the inclusion in the Representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of mankind of the epic art "Gorogly" as an example of the mixed performance of the Turkmen people (2015), the Turkmen national art of singing and dancing "Kushtdepdi" (2017), as well as the traditions of the Turkmen art of carpet making (2019).

The session of the General Assembly of States parties to the UNESCO Convention on the protection of the intangible cultural heritage will last until September 10.
It should be noted that since May 2019, the permanent representative of Turkmenistan to UNESCO is the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to France Shohrat Jumayev.
