Afghanistan has appointed a new Ambassador to Turkmenistan

Khan Wali Khan Basharmal has been appointed as the new Ambassador of Afghanistan to Turkmenistan, according to the “Афганистан.Ру” information portal.

According to the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, the new Ambassador worked as a Deputy of the Main office of the President of Afghanistan before his appointment.

The current Ambassador of Afghanistan to Turkmenistan, Najibullah Alikheel, who has held this position since October 2019, has been appointed as the Ambassador of Afghanistan to Pakistan.

In addition to appointing a new Ambassador to Turkmenistan, the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Afghanistan has also replaced 12 ambassadors, including to Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and several other countries. In the near future, the Ministry will submit candidates for diplomats to the receiving parties for obtaining an Agrément.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan were established on February 26, 1992. The length of the state border between the two countries is 804 kilometers. There is an Embassy of Afghanistan in Ashgabat and an IRA Consulate General in Mary.

For many years, Turkmenistan has provided targeted economic and humanitarian support to the neighboring country. It is expressed in the construction of medical and educational institutions, preferential electricity supplies, training of Afghan students in Turkmen educational institutions, regular dispatch of humanitarian supplies, and other types of assistance.

Much attention is paid to the implementation of major infrastructure projects in such vital areas as energy, transport and communications. Their implementation is an essential factor in the political stabilization, economic and social recovery of Afghanistan and its successful integration into regional and global economic processes.
