The Minister of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan took part in the dialogue “Central Asia+Japan”

Today, foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov took part in the meeting of foreign Ministers in the dialogue “Central Asia +Japan”, which was held in the format of a video conference.

The meeting, held under the auspices of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, was attended by the foreign Ministers of five Central Asian countries.

The diplomats discussed regional cooperation in the format of versatile cooperation between the Central Asian countries and Japan, taking into account the spread of a new coronavirus infection on a global scale.

During the speeches, the participants noted the effectiveness of cooperation, which is based on the principles of growth, solidarity and comprehensive support in key areas of mutually beneficial partnership.

In his speech, foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov noted that since the establishment of the dialogue in 2004 “Central Asia + Japan” this format has been significantly developed, and the topics of discussions on topical issues of ensuring international and regional security, sustainable development, creating favorable conditions for effective trade and economic ties, and active exchange in the cultural and humanitarian field have significantly expanded. In the context of a new type of infection pandemic, this format of communication cannot remain aloof from solving the most acute problem faced by humanity. The current Dialogue of foreign Ministers makes it possible to exchange views on the current difficult situation in the world and ways to overcome it, Meredov stressed.

In order to effectively unite the efforts of countries in countering the pandemic, the head of the foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan took the initiative to develop the "Central Asia + Japan" Policy document that includes the basic principles of joint action by States parties in the fight against a new type of infection and specific measures aimed at the prevention and treatment of diseases caused by it.

R. Meredov also expressed special gratitude to the Japanese side for its readiness to provide a grant project in the field of medicine as part of the Official development assistance program of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Japan. Turkmen doctors highly appreciate the knowledge and experience gained during videoconferences with leading Japanese specialists on methods of treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, medical technologies, drugs and equipment, and personal protective equipment.

An exchange of views was held on the agenda of the upcoming 8th meeting of the Dialogue “Central Asia +Japan”. The sides discussed such issues as development and approval of "the concept of partnership Central Asian States and Japan in the field of security", creating a "Platform for the development of economic partnership," the preparation and discussion of a Road map on cooperation of States parties in the field of high technologies and preparation of the "program of cooperation between the countries participating in the socio-cultural sphere," the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
