This is reported by the expert vesti.az Elmar Yusufli in the review of the role of the textile industry in the economy of the Turkic Council countries.
Centuries-old culture, in terms of production and export of cotton - the main raw material for the textile industry, determines the fact that Turkey (sixth in the world with 988 thousand tons), Uzbekistan (seventh in the world with 640 thousand tons) and Turkmenistan (tenth in the world with 300 thousand tons) are among the top ten leading exporters in the world.
Countries that have the main resources needed for the development of the sector (high-quality raw materials and labor, cheap energy resources, proximity to target export markets, logistics infrastructure), promise great prospects for the future of this sector, the expert believes.
In particular, the textile industry is the second most profitable sector in Turkmenistan after gas and oil exports. Special importance is attached to carpet weaving, which is a valuable national heritage. A wide network of this industry has been created in all regions of the country.
The country also has developed sheep breeding of the Karakul breed, famous for its skin and wool.
The largest foreign investments in the textile industry of Turkmenistan are of Turkish origin. There are textile enterprises in the country (factories that produce fabrics, yarns, etc.) that produce 100% environmentally friendly products in accordance with the latest technologies.
The country's textile products (including cotton) are exported to more than 100 countries, including the United States, Canada, Russia, and the United Kingdom. The opening of the Lapis-Lazuli route between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in 2018, as well as other transport infrastructure, played a major role in accelerating the supply of Turkmen products to the Turkish and European markets and created new opportunities for the country by reducing the time and route of transportation of products considered highly competitive in the textile industry.
