Promising areas of cooperation were discussed during a meeting between Ilsur Metshin, the mayor of the capital of Tatarstan, and Atadurdy Bayramov, the Consul General of Turkmenistan in Kazan. This is reported by the website of the mayor's office of Kazan.
Ilsur Metshin wished the Consul General successful work and expressed readiness to provide the Turkmen mission with all-round assistance. The new Consulate General in Kazan is another important step towards strengthening friendly and partnership relations between Russia and Turkmenistan, the mayor of Kazan believes.
- I am very happy with the decision of the President of Turkmenistan to open a Consulate in Kazan, which will work for 14 regions. It is a great honor that Tatarstan and Kazan were chosen to host your representative office.
Atadurdy Bayramov, who headed the Consulate in May this year, in turn, noted that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of Turkmen-Russian relations in many areas:
- Regional cooperation is also a priority for us. Tatarstan rightfully occupies a leading position. We have established cooperation with the Republic in the trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian and social spheres. Last year, a partnership with major Tatarstan companies was planned.
Atadurdy Bayramov stressed that President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov hold joint meetings every year.
- Turkmenistan attaches great importance to urban development. In the future, we plan to increase our partnership in this area as well.
The decision to open the second Russian Consulate General in Kazan was made in 2019 by decree of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Another Consulate General has been operating in Astrakhan since 2013. Residents of 14 regions of the Russian Federation will be able to receive consular services in the capital of Tatarstan.
According to statistics, in 2018 Kazan was visited by almost 5.3 thousand citizens of Turkmenistan, in 2019 – more than 9.5 thousand people.
