Iran's Ambassador to Ashgabat, Gholam Abbas Arbab, said that Iran's border with Turkmenistan will be reopened on June 10 with full compliance with medical protocols, IRNA reported.

The Iranian Ambassador said that the resumption of transportation and transit of rail and road cargo across the state borders of Iran and Turkmenistan was scheduled for June 1. However, due to the need to carry out disinfection measures in the coming week in order to prevent the COVID-19 virus, it was postponed to June 10.

The diplomat explained that this decision was made by a joint technical working group during a videoconference, which was attended by representatives of the transport departments of the two countries, health, agriculture, foreign Affairs and customs services of Turkmenistan and Iran.

Currently, Iran is also continuing to negotiate the resumption of trade with Uzbekistan through Turkmenistan, Ambassador Gholam Abbas Arbab said.

IRNA recalls that the Turkmen-Iranian border was closed at the end of February due to an outbreak of coronavirus in Iran.

An outbreak caused by a new coronavirus was recorded in late 2019 in Central China, spread to most countries of the world and was recognized by the world health organization as a pandemic.

According to official reports, there are no cases of coronavirus infection in Turkmenistan.
