Today, the UN Regional center for preventive diplomacy for Central Asia (RCPDCA) held a working meeting to discuss the draft National action plan for the implementation of the national strategy of Turkmenistan for preventing violent extremism and countering terrorism for 2020-2024.
The event was attended by heads and representatives of the Ministry of foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and economy, military and law enforcement agencies, the Institute of state, law and democracy of Turkmenistan, and UN structural units accredited in our country.
The national strategy developed with the assistance of the RCPDCA was approved by the Decree of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on December 6, 2019 at an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
This document was prepared taking into account international experience, including the main principles set out in the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, as well as recommendations of the UN counter-terrorism Committee Executive Directorate.
Emphasizing the role of our state in ensuring security and sustainable development in the region, speakers noted that Turkmenistan is the first country in Central Asia to adopt a National strategy aimed at combating these challenges of the time. Our state actively supports the policy of peace and security, and acts from the position of positive neutrality.
The draft National action plan reviewed during the meeting was prepared in order to identify concrete steps for the practical implementation of the priorities arising from the medium-term Strategy. The document reflects such topical areas as migration, border control, the Internet, the financing of terrorism, socio-economic and political aspects, as well as human rights and the rule of law.
At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed their support for enhancing cooperation in this area, the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
