This was stated by first Deputy Prime Minister of Dagestan Gadzhimagomed Guseynov during a meeting held in Makhachkala by the presidential envoy to the North Caucasus Federal district (NCFD) Yuri Chaika, the Port news Agency reports, citing TASS.
"By the end of this month, the ferry from Turkmenbashi should already be making a trial call to our port," Guseynov said.
Back in October 2019, Dagestan's economy Minister Gaji Sultanov reported that in 2020, it is planned to open a ferry service between the Turkmen port of Turkmenbashi and Dagestan.
According to him, negotiations on the beginning of the ferry service are underway with the company "Turkmen Milli Logistics". According to the Ministry of economy of Dagestan, cargo from Turkmenistan will go in transit: through Novorossiysk to Europe. It is planned to send rice, soft drinks, mineral water and industrial products from Dagestan. It is expected that the ferry will be able to transport up to 1 million tons of cargo per year.
Recall that the ferry service between Makhachkala and Turkmenbashi was launched in 2002, but was suspended a year later.
