Today, the first round of the 2020 Turkmenistan Higher League season continued with two matches in Ashgabat and Turkmenbashi.
On the main arena of the multi-purpose Ashgabat Stadium, the current vice-champion of the country, FC Ahal, played with one of the outsiders of last year’s championship FC Nebitchi. The guests put up worthy resistance to a formidable opponent, who in the offseason was strengthened by several eminent footballers, but still lost — 0:2. The winners were distinguished by the team’s newcomer forward Murat Yakshiyev (22nd minute) and midfielder Elman Tagayev (73rd).
Last year’s bronze medalist FC Shagadam in Turkmenbashi played a draw with FC Ashgabat — 0:0. The game was held in a strong wind, which prevented the rivals from demonstrating the combination game.
The meeting between FC Altyn Asyr and FC Merw was postponed until March 20. Thus, after the unfinished first round, the FC Ahal team alone led 3 points.
