A new grant in the amount of 5,067,499 us dollars was allocated by the Global Fund to Turkmenistan for the fight against tuberculosis (TB) and the creation of sustainable health systems for the period 2021-2024, the press service of the UNDP in Turkmenistan reports.

The global Fund has been working with Turkmenistan to fight tuberculosis since 2010, providing more than $ 25,531,566 in grants to fight tuberculosis in Turkmenistan. The main recipient of the grants was the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The main capacity-building activities were organized by the world health organization. The national red Crescent society provided social and psychological counseling to patients undergoing outpatient treatment to improve compliance with the treatment regimen.

As part of the grants, the most innovative, rapid methods of molecular testing for TB and accurate detection of M-RTB were introduced in all five regions of the country, the coverage of testing for TB and drug-resistant TB expanded, and more than 3,138 patients with MR-TB and TED-R, including those in prisons, were admitted for treatment.
The new grant is designed to accelerate progress in sustainable TB burden reduction and focus on interventions that support or expand evidence-based interventions for key and vulnerable populations, ensuring gender equality and access to TB diagnosis and treatment for all.
