Fotball club Altyn Asyr from Ashgabat defended the title of champions of Turkmenistan. The team of Turkmenaragatnashyk Agency of the Ministry of Industry and Communication of Turkmenistan achieved this success ahead of schedule, three rounds before the end of the championship.
Altyn Asyr FC won gold medals today after an away victory in the 25th round of the national championship over their main competitor – the Shagadam FC from Turkmenbashi with a score of 2:1.
Thus, Altyn Asyr FC for the sixth time became the champion of Turkmenistan in football. The success of the finalist of the AFC Cup 2018 was led by the 43-year-old honored coach of the country Yazguly Hodjageldiyev.
Earlier, the players of this club won gold medals in the top division of Turkmenistan football in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. In terms of the number of championships won, Altyn Asyr FC caught up with Kopetdag FC and became one of the most titled clubs in Turkmenistan.
In 2020, Altyn Asyr FC will take part in the group stage of the AFC Cup. The AFC Cup is an annual continental club football competition organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Under its current rules, the competition is played primarily between clubs from nations that did not receive direct qualifying slots in the top-tier AFC Champions League, based on the AFC Club Competitions Ranking.
