Effective November 20, 2025, China introduced an electronic entry card system for foreign citizens. The new format does not replace the traditional paper version, which remains available to travelers.
You can apply for an electronic card in advance on a special website. To do this, you need to upload a photo of your passport, indicate the purpose of your trip, and enter other required information. Once completed, the system generates a QR code, which you must save and present when going through border control in China.
It's important to note that the QR code is only valid for 24 hours, so it's recommended to obtain the entry card immediately before departure.
Completing the card is mandatory for all passengers entering China, both with and without a visa. Transit passengers traveling through China to other countries are exempt from this requirement.
If travelers have not filled out the card in advance, they can do so upon arrival: via smartphone, at the airport kiosk, or in traditional paper form.
