Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov accepted the credentials of the newly appointed Qatari Ambassador to Ashgabat, Nasser bin Ahmed Al Taher, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.
The diplomat conveyed greetings from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and congratulated Serdar Berdimuhamedov on being awarded Uzbekistan's highest state award, the Oliý Darajali Dustlik (Friendship of the Highest Degree) Order, which he received during a recent visit to Tashkent.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized Ashgabat's strong commitment to strengthening multifaceted cooperation with Doha. The President noted the high level of mutual understanding and partnership between the countries and expressed gratitude for Qatar's support for Turkmenistan's initiatives at the UN.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for developing trade and economic relations. Priority areas of cooperation included the fuel and energy sector, transport and communications, the chemical and textile industries, agriculture, healthcare, and high technology. The need to intensify the work of the joint intergovernmental commission was particularly emphasized.
The Ambassador assured that he would make every effort to further strengthen the traditionally friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Qatar.
