A regional seminar, "Water Challenges in Central Asia," has opened in the capital of Uzbekistan. It was organized within the framework of the activities of the Blue Peace Central Asia (BPCA) Regional Advisory Committee, according to carececo.org.
The event is organized by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and in partnership with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC).
The main goal of the workshop is to identify key water challenges facing the region in the medium and long term. Participants will also discuss adaptation priorities, funding opportunities for innovative solutions, and coordination issues among Central Asian countries.
Representatives of relevant ministries, research centers, and international organizations are participating in the seminar. Turkmenistan is represented by a delegation of seven specialists, including Magtymguly Akmuradov, Advisor on Environmental and Water Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of the State Water Management Committee, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Education, and other relevant agencies.
The agenda includes a discussion of priority areas of cooperation for 2025–2026, including the development of hydrodiplomacy, joint management of small transboundary rivers, and strengthening human resources in the field of water and climate initiatives.
The workshop will aim to identify key areas for joint action in the area of sustainable water use and adaptation to climate change.
