State Duma Deputy Sultan Khamzaev has proposed banning the sale of tobacco products to citizens born after 2017. A corresponding request has been sent to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, RIA Novosti reports.
The parliamentarian believes it is necessary to protect future generations from the threat of tobacco. He believes such a ban would represent a new approach to the country's anti-tobacco policy.
The concept is based on the idea of a "tobacco-free generation." The proposal entails a gradual phase-out of tobacco products for those born after a certain age. However, this does not entail an immediate ban on smoking for all ages; rather, it aims to establish a "tobacco threshold" that will gradually increase.
It is proposed to introduce a transition period, starting with children aged eight, to help create a society free of nicotine addiction.
The deputy asked the Prime Minister to instruct the relevant agencies to study the initiative and assess the feasibility of such a ban.
