The US Senate passed a budget bill in its final vote, which would end the longest shutdown in the country's history. The measure was passed by 60 senators in favor and 39 against.
The decision clears the way for debate on the budget bill. According to the Senate press service, eight Democratic and independent senators supported the document, while one Republican voted against it.
The bill now faces consideration in the House of Representatives, after which it will be sent to President Donald Trump for his signature.
The new US fiscal year began on October 1, but Congress failed to approve the budget on time. This led to a federal government shutdown and the furlough of approximately 40% of government employees—more than 800 thousand people.
