US President Donald Trump told reporters that the country is close to ending the partial government shutdown. "It looks like we're getting closer to ending the shutdown. You'll know very soon," he said.
The shutdown has been ongoing since October 1st and has now lasted 40 days. It was caused by Congress's failure to pass a budget.
According to CNN, Politico, and Bloomberg, Senate Republicans and Democrats have reached a preliminary agreement to temporarily fund the government through January 30. A vote on the bill is scheduled for the evening of November 9, Eastern Time.
According to the agreement, funding for the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Veterans Affairs, construction programs, and congressional activities will be extended through the end of the fiscal year. As CNN clarifies, an extension of Obamacare subsidies is not included in the document, but a separate vote on this issue is scheduled for December.
