The 24th meeting of the “Turkmenistan-European Union” Joint Committee was held in Ashgabat yesterday.
The Turkmen delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy B. Yalakov, and the EU delegation was led by Audronė Perkauskienė, Deputy Managing Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the European External Action Service. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The agenda included discussion of the macroeconomic situation in Turkmenistan and the European Union, development of trade cooperation, including support for Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO, modernization of transport infrastructure and digitalization, cooperation in the fields of energy and environmental protection, as well as humanitarian and educational projects.
Particular attention was paid to transport connectivity. Projects in the transport sector and the implementation of the e-CMR electronic consignment note system within the framework of the EU Global Gateway initiative were discussed.
In the energy sector, issues of diversifying energy supply routes, developing renewable energy, and introducing energy-efficient technologies were discussed.
Humanitarian cooperation issues covered education, academic programs and exchanges, as well as the annual Human Rights Dialogue, which aims to strengthen social inclusion.
Following the meeting, a bilateral Turkmenistan-EU Roadmap for the coming years will be developed and industry forums will be held in Turkmenistan, the source noted.
