Russia's Ministry of Digital Development is developing a system of children's SIM cards that will allow parents to track their children's location, according to RBK reporter Maksut Shadayev, head of the Ministry of Digital Development.
According to the new rules, special SIM cards will be issued to children under 14 years of age with mandatory parental consent. The key feature of these cards is the ability to provide parents with their child's geolocation data upon request, without the need for a court order.
Children's SIM cards will have limited functionality. Specifically, they will not be able to use certain services, including social media login.
Shadayev first announced plans to introduce special SIM cards for children in August of this year. The head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media emphasized that such cards would be mandatory for all children of the appropriate age, but only with their parents' consent.
