Massive flight delays and cancellations are expected in the United States due to the federal government shutdown and a shortage of air traffic control personnel, Kazinform reports, citing ABC.
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated in an interview with the television channel that the measures being taken are aimed at ensuring the safety of passengers. He also warned that if the shutdown continues for several weeks, air travel will become significantly more challenging.
"We will delay and cancel all flights throughout our national airspace to ensure the safety of our people," the Transportation Secretary noted.
The current shutdown, which began on October 1 due to the lack of a congressionally approved budget for the next fiscal year, could become the longest in U.S. history.
