Elon Musk's company unveiled Grokipedia, a new online encyclopedia project that resembles Wikipedia. The service is now available to users, including Turkmenistan.
According to its developers, the encyclopedia contains over 885 thousand articles. By comparison, the English-language version of Wikipedia has over 7 million articles, Business Insider notes.
Grokipedia's interface is minimalist: the main page features a search bar with auto-suggestion. After entering a query, the system offers several suggestions for articles on the topic.
Unlike Wikipedia, Grokipedia articles do not contain images. Users cannot edit them themselves, but they can view the revision history without attribution.
The content is generated using neural networks. The New York Times suggests that the service is based on the same artificial intelligence model used in the Grok chatbot. The publication also reports technical glitches on the website and errors in the text.
The Verge notes that the articles state that Grok "checked them for accuracy." However, the publication also found instances of information being lifted from Wikipedia—for example, the PlayStation 5 articles in both encyclopedias are identical.
