Today in Ashgabat, a ceremonial signing of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2026-2030 took place. This framework defines strategic priorities for cooperation in the coming period, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The signing took place at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan as part of a conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the UN.
The event was attended by heads and representatives of relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, heads and employees of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, faculty and students of the institute, as well as media representatives.
In his address, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov emphasized Turkmenistan's continued commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the UN, noting that the Organization has remained the guarantor of international peace and security for eight decades. The Minister noted that the initiatives put forward by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly reflect a profound understanding of contemporary global challenges and are aimed at strengthening the Organization's role in addressing key international issues.
The head of Turkmenistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed support for the provisions of the UN Secretary-General's "Future Pact" and confirmed the country's readiness to facilitate their implementation. Turkmenistan's active participation in UN international conventions and the successful implementation of a wide range of national and regional projects carried out in cooperation with UN agencies were also noted.
The conference presentations by heads of relevant ministries and representatives of UN agencies reflected the broad range of areas of Turkmenistan's cooperation with the United Nations. Key areas included healthcare, education, social protection, the economy, the environment, and digital transformation. Turkmenistan's important role in promoting preventive diplomacy and strengthening an atmosphere of peace and trust in the region was noted, including through cooperation with the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.
In the context of the anniversary year, examples of Turkmenistan's successful cooperation with the United Nations were cited, including the hosting of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone.
At the end of the conference, the participants adopted an Address to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
