Natural gas is the most environmentally friendly of all hydrocarbons and plays a key role in achieving a low-carbon future. This was stated by Murat Archayev, Deputy Chairman of the State Concern “Turkmengaz”, at the pre-conference session of the International Conference and Exhibition "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2025" (OGT 2025). According to him, the country's priority is the transition to clean energy based on natural gas.
"The “Turkmengaz” State Concern is implementing large-scale projects aimed at increasing production efficiency, developing gas chemistry, and reducing methane emissions. Our priority is the transition to clean energy based on natural gas, which remains the most environmentally friendly of all hydrocarbons and plays a key role in achieving a low-carbon future," Archayev said.
The deputy head of the concern noted that Turkmenistan is actively implementing methane emission monitoring and control systems, including satellite and ground-based observation. These measures are already yielding results. "Since 2020, overall methane emissions in Turkmenistan have decreased by 10%, despite increased production volumes," he emphasized.
Archayev added that the country is consistently implementing a national roadmap to reduce methane emissions for 2025-2026. As part of this program, associated gas utilization projects are being developed and compressor stations are being modernized.
Within the framework of Turkmenistan's oil and gas industry development program through 2030, the concern is actively collaborating with leading international companies. "We have contracts with Baker Hughes and are planning a contract with Siemens Energy for the repair and modernization of compressor stations. This will help improve equipment efficiency, reduce pressure losses, and methane leaks," Archayev said.
From October 22 to 24, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat will host the 30th International Conference and Exhibition "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – OGT 2025," one of the largest events in the region's energy sector. The forum is organized by the state-owned concerns “Turkmengaz” and “Turkmennebit”, and the State Concern “Turkmengeologiya”, with the support of the Turkmen Energy Forum. The OGT EXPO 2025 exhibition will take place concurrently, featuring more than 100 companies from 70 countries showcasing the latest technologies and equipment for the energy sector.
