Kane's brace secured a victory for England over DR Congo and a spot in the 2026 World Cup Round of 1/8

The England national football team defeated DR Congo 2–1 in a World Cup Round of 1/16 match. The game took place in Atlanta, Georgia (USA).

Harry Kane scored both goals for the winning side (75th and 86th minutes). Brian Sipenga scored for the losing team (7th minute).

The Bayern Munich forward was named Player of the Match. With 13 goals, Kane is England's all-time leading scorer at World Cups; he has a total of 84 goals in 118 appearances for the national team—also a national record.

"When you get to the knockout stage, the pressure and the stakes are much higher. But from an attacking perspective, this was definitely our best game of the tournament. Sometimes you just have to grind out a win, and that’s exactly what we did today. I told the lads to enjoy the game. We’ve advanced, and we have another match in four days. We’re a really strong side. I hope we can keep this momentum going," Kane said, as quoted by the FIFA website.

In the round of 1/8, the England national team will face Mexico. The match will take place on July 6 in Mexico City.

The World Cup is taking place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, featuring 48 national teams. The tournament concludes on July 19. The defending champion is Argentina.
