The Moroccan national team knocked the Netherlands out of the 2026 World Cup in a penalty shootout

The Moroccan national team defeated the Netherlands in a penalty shootout in the Round of 32 of the World Cup. The match took place in Monterrey, Mexico, and the Dutch team was eliminated from the tournament.

The match ended in a 1–1 draw after regulation and extra time. Cody Gakpo scored for the Netherlands (72nd minute), while Issa Diop scored for Morocco (90+1 minute). The Moroccan players proved more accurate in the penalty shootout, winning 3–2.

At the conclusion of the group stage, the Moroccan national team finished second in Group C, while the Netherlands finished first in Group F.

In the Round of 16, the Moroccans will play against Canada; the match will take place on July 4 in Houston (Texas, USA).

The football World Cup is taking place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament concludes on July 19. The reigning champion is the Argentina national team.
