Turkmenistan and the ILO signed a cooperation plan for 2026-2027

The National Center of Trade Unions of Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization signed a joint action plan for 2026-2027. The document was agreed upon during a visit to Ashgabat by Sergius Glovaskas, head of the ILO's Labour Division for Europe and Central Asia.

The signing took place during a training seminar, "Protecting Labor Rights and International Labor Standards," held on May 8 at the National Center of Trade Unions of Turkmenistan. Representatives of the country's trade unions, experts, and specialists participated in the event.

The new plan builds on the successful implementation of the 2025 program and reflects shared goals for further strengthening cooperation. The document provides for training seminars, educational events, and the exchange of experience on key issues related to protecting workers' rights, developing social partnership, and applying international labor standards.

During the seminar, participants discussed prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the ILO, employment, and labor standards in various economic sectors. Particular attention was paid to the Concept for the Development of Turkmenistan's Labor Market until 2030, approved by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in September 2025.

As the speakers noted, the implementation of the Concept will be an important step in improving national employment policy and expanding cooperation with international organizations and foreign countries. The document will also facilitate increased efforts to accede to ILO conventions and effectively integrate them into national legislation and practice.

The seminar featured presentations on international labor standards and modern tools for protecting workers' rights, the role of Turkmenistan's trade unions in protecting workers' social and labor rights, regional experience in protecting labor rights, and legal mechanisms for protecting workers in national legislation.

Participants emphasized that, in the context of a changing labor market, the emergence of new forms of employment, and digitalization, a proper understanding and application of international labor standards is particularly important. Standards developed within the ILO provide a reliable foundation for protecting workers' rights, ensuring fair working conditions, and strengthening social stability.
