Wheat flour – 2.5 cups
Salt – 1 tsp.
Butter – 220 g
Chicken egg – 1 pc.
Powdered sugar – 1 cup
Vanilla extract – 1 tsp.
Almond extract – 1 tsp. (can be replaced with orange zest)

Add the egg, almond extract (or orange zest), and vanilla extract and beat on medium speed until it has the consistency of curdled milk. Then add flour to the resulting mixture until the dough thickens. Divide the dough in half.

Add food coloring to half of the dough and mix thoroughly. You can use different colors. Wrap each piece in cling film and leave in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours.

To form a candy cane cookie, pinch a small amount of dough from both sides. Using your hands, roll it into thin sausages about 12 cm long. Roll the sausages into a pigtail and form cookies. Repeat this with the rest of the dough.

Bake the cookies in an oven preheated to 180°C for 8-10 minutes until they are golden brown. The finished cookies can be decorated with powdered sugar.
