US President Donald Trump has appointed Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy as acting head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The American leader announced this on his social network TruthSocial.
Trump noted that Duffy "does a tremendous job" in managing the country's transportation affairs. The president highlighted the secretary's success in creating advanced air traffic control systems and rebuilding roads and bridges.
"He will be a wonderful leader of this increasingly important space agency, even if only for a short time. Congratulations and thank you, Sean!" Trump wrote in his message.
Duffy's appointment came after Trump announced on the night of June 1 that he was withdrawing the candidacy of American billionaire Jared Isaacman to head NASA. The reasons for this decision were not explained. According to Reuters, Isaacman was recommended for the position by entrepreneur Elon Musk.
