Ian Sanders will visit Turkmenistan to attend UN conference

Within the framework of a working visit to Brussels, Chairman of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan Maksat Hudaykulyev met with Secretary General of the World Customs Organization Jan Sanders. The visit is related to participation in the 145th and 146th sessions of the WCO Customs Cooperation Council. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium Sapar Palvanov.

According to the Embassy of Turkmenistan, the Chairman of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan confirmed the country's readiness to deepen partnership with the organization and actively participate in current and future WCO projects, including risk management and personnel development.

Particular attention was paid to the training center at the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, which, by decision of the members of the World Customs Organization, was awarded the status of a regional training center. The head of the department expressed gratitude to the WCO for assistance in promoting the initiative and emphasized the importance of further cooperation in developing the center's activities.

During the meeting, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan conveyed official invitations from the leadership of Turkmenistan to the WCO Secretary General. The first invitation from the President of Turkmenistan concerns participation in the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, scheduled for August 2025 in Ashgabat. The second invitation from the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov concerns the International High-Level Dialogue on Peace, which will be held on December 12, 2025 in Ashgabat in connection with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality.

The WCO Secretary General accepted both invitations and confirmed his intention to personally participate in the August conference in Ashgabat. He noted Turkmenistan's active position as a member of the organization and expressed gratitude for the modernization of the country's customs system.
