An intergovernmental agreement on the establishment of a Turkmen-Russian university will be prepared in the near future. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking to employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, teachers and students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country.
"In the near future, we plan to implement a large-scale project to create a Russian-Turkmen university. Today, my colleague and friend, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and I discussed the progress of preparing an intergovernmental agreement on this issue," Lavrov said.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted the special place of humanitarian cooperation in the partnership between the two countries. "We highly value the respectful, interested attitude in Turkmenistan towards the Russian language, literature, and Russian culture. The Russian drama theater in Ashgabat enjoys great popularity. The joint Russian-Turkmen school named after Pushkin is successfully functioning," the minister emphasized.
According to him, the Russian language is widely studied in educational institutions of Turkmenistan. "In Russia, the Turkmen language is taught at universities and in a special school in the Astrakhan region, where the Turkmen diaspora lives compactly," Lavrov added.
