About 120 foreign citizens crossed the Iranian-Turkmen border in connection with the situation in the Middle East, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported.

“In connection with the current situation in the Middle East, Turkmenistan is taking immediate measures to provide its territory for the exit of foreign diplomats and members of their families, as well as other citizens currently located in Iran,” the department’s statement noted.

According to the Foreign Ministry, more than 120 people passed through checkpoints on the Turkmen-Iranian border. Among them were citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Romania and other countries. Those who arrived were provided with vehicles, food, hotels and essential items.

As emphasized in the message, within the framework of the implementation of the humanitarian mission, the relevant state bodies of Turkmenistan closely cooperate with diplomatic missions of foreign states and international organizations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that in this way Turkmenistan is practically confirming its commitment to the principles of humanity, international cooperation and good neighborliness, which is especially relevant in the International Year of Peace and Trust, declared by the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
