Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov arrived in Ulaanbaatar on Sunday for a state visit. The plane of the Turkmen leader landed at the Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport, where he was met by Mongolian officials, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
During the welcoming ceremony, the national flags of the two countries were raised on flagpoles and a guard of honor was lined up. According to the tradition of Mongolian hospitality, the distinguished guest was presented with the national dish gurt and flowers.
The program of the visit includes the signing of a package of bilateral documents aimed at strengthening the contractual and legal basis of interstate relations. It is planned to hold a Turkmen-Mongolian business forum, cultural events with the participation of artists from both countries, as well as an exhibition of works of national decorative and applied art and an exhibition-fair of Turkmen carpets.
On the second day of the visit, high-level negotiations will be held in Ulaanbaatar, the agenda of which will include a wide range of issues of interstate cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats.
Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Mongolia were established in 1992. The countries actively interact within the framework of international organizations, including the UN, and provide each other with mutual support on current issues on the regional and global agenda.
