The American Film Academy has announced the creation of a new nomination for “Best Stunt Performance,” which will first appear at the Oscars ceremony in 2028. The award will be presented at the 100th anniversary awards ceremony, Film.ru reports, citing Variety.
Director David Leitch, known for Faster Than a Bullet and Stuntmen, was one of the key initiators of the category. In a statement, he said: “Stunts are essential to every genre of film and are deeply rooted in the history of our industry — from the groundbreaking work of pioneers like Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, and Charlie Chaplin to the inspiring work of today’s stuntmen, coordinators, performers, and choreographers. We are incredibly grateful. Thank you, Academy.”
In addition, starting in 2026, the Oscars will introduce another new category: Best Casting.
