The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Ashgabat Ivan Volynkin highly praised the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a resolution on the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan. The diplomat emphasized the symbolism of the event, which took place during the International Year of Peace and Trust and coincided with the 30th anniversary of the first resolution on the country's neutrality.
During the International Conference "International Year of Peace and Trust: Triumph of Turkmenistan's Permanent Neutrality," Volynkin stated that Russia consistently supports Turkmenistan's sovereign choice and values its desire to develop equal, mutually beneficial relations. This seems especially important in the context of the formation of a multipolar system of international relations.
The diplomat stressed that Ashgabat’s neutral position helps overcome confrontation in international affairs and strengthen the potential of Central Asia as a link between world civilizations.
Russia expressed its readiness to further deepen coordination with Turkmenistan in the area of ensuring regional stability. The Russian side is expected to actively participate in upcoming international events, including the Conference on “Development of International Activities for Children” in the city of Arkadag on March 29 and the Forum of Heads of State and International Organizations on December 12 in Ashgabat.
