Cases of a disease known as EVALI (E-cigarette, or Vaping, product use Associated Lung Injury) or "vaper disease" have been diagnosed in Russia for the first time. The first victims were teenagers from Tomsk, the Topor-Live Telegram channel reports.
One of the teenagers was diagnosed with obliterating bronchiolitis, which is known in the United States as EVALI, while the second was found to have toxic damage to the nervous system caused by smoking mixtures.
EVALI is a serious health threat. The disease causes inflammation and scarring of the bronchioles, the smallest branches of the respiratory tract. As a result of the respiratory system damage, breathing may produce a characteristic sound reminiscent of popcorn, which is why the disease has also received the unofficial name "popcorn".
Doctors note that there is currently no effective treatment for this disease. Cases of EVALI have been widely reported in the United States since 2019 and have been associated with the use of e-cigarettes and vapes.
