In a study of food prices at European airports conducted by the Italian publication Corriere della Sera, Istanbul International Airport was found to be the leader in terms of food and drink prices. However, the airport administration did not agree with this assessment, RIA Novosti reports.
The study, which covered 17 of Europe’s largest airports, showed that prices at Istanbul Airport are significantly higher than average. For example, a croissant here will cost travelers 16.5 euros, a glass of orange juice – 8 euros, and a 0.5-liter bottle of Evian water costs 6 euros, which is higher than the cost of a similar product in Frankfurt (4.75 euros).
TUM&TRU, the company that operates the airport’s food outlets, has issued a refutation. According to the company, the airport offers a wide range of food products in various price categories, including affordable options for any budget. The availability of free drinking fountains where passengers can fill their water bottles is particularly emphasized.
It is important to note the significant difference in prices between the international and domestic terminals. In the domestic flight zone, prices are significantly lower and are indicated in Turkish lira, while in the international terminal, the euro predominates. At the same time, even in the international zone, you can find more economical options, for example, water from Turkish manufacturers at a price lower than the stated 6 euros for Evian.
