Turkmenistan launches production of dry cargo vessels with a carrying capacity of 6100 tons

A ceremonial keel laying ceremony for the first dry cargo ship was held at the “Balkan” shipyard in Turkmenistan. The event, which took place on January 6, 2025, was attended by representatives of the shipyard management and the South Korean company Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd., balkanshipyard.com.tm reports.

The construction is being carried out under an agreement signed on September 13, 2023, on the construction of two dry cargo vessels with a carrying capacity of 6100 tons.

The contract is being implemented in accordance with Resolution No. 680 "On the construction of dry cargo vessels" and is aimed at developing the country's transport infrastructure.

The first construction work began in August 2024, and by November the first blocks of the ships under construction were delivered to the shipyard. The project is being implemented with the technological assistance of South Korean specialists and is part of a large-scale program of the President of Turkmenistan to develop sea and river transport, as well as the country's shipbuilding industry.
