Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved a new National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking for 2025–2029. The plan was presented by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov at a government meeting, reports the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
The document consists of five sections and provides a set of targeted measures to combat human trafficking. The plan clearly defines the deadlines for the implementation of measures, establishes performance indicators and appoints responsible government agencies. Particular attention is paid to expanding international cooperation in this area.
An important step in strengthening the fight against human trafficking was the establishment in 2024 of the Interdepartmental Commission, with whose participation the new plan was developed. The document was prepared in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The adoption of the new plan continues Turkmenistan's consistent policy in this area. The country has previously successfully implemented similar national plans for the periods 2016-2018 and 2020-2022. According to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the fight against human trafficking remains one of the most important global problems requiring coordinated interaction with the world community.
