Turkmenistan, among the Caspian countries, extended the moratorium on commercial sturgeon fishing until 2025

Five Caspian states, including Turkmenistan, have made an important decision to extend the ban on commercial sturgeon fishing in the Caspian Sea until 2025.This decision was made at the 8th session of the commission for the conservation and rational use of aquatic biological resources of the Caspian Sea, which was held in Astrakhan, as reported by Rosrybolovstvo.

According to the decision, in 2025 export quotas for caviar and sturgeon species will not be established. The fishing of these valuable species will be permitted exclusively for scientific research and artificial reproduction purposes.

Particular attention is paid to restoring the sturgeon population. In 2023, Russian enterprises released 34,5 million juvenile sturgeon into the Caspian Sea, Kazakh enterprises - 1,9 million, Azerbaijani - 618,7 thousand.

Based on the results of the 8th session, the Protocol of the Commission meeting was signed, which reflects the decisions taken.

From January 1, 2025, the chairmanship of the Caspian Commission is transferred by rotation to Turkmenistan
