The 2024 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony took place in Oslo, Norway. The Japanese organization "Nihon Hidankyo", which unites survivors of the tragedy of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, received an honorary award. The ceremony, as always, took place on December 10 - the memorable date of the death of Alfred Nobel - and took place in the city hall with the participation of representatives of the Norwegian royal family, reports kommersant.ru.

Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee Jorgen Vatne Fridnes presented the gold medal to three representatives of the organization, which was broadcast on the official website of the Nobel Foundation. The prize was awarded for unprecedented efforts to promote the idea of a world without nuclear weapons and convincing evidence of the inadmissibility of their use.

17 Japanese - living witnesses of the destructive atomic bombings - arrived at the ceremony. The 92-year-old co-chairman of "Nihon Hidanke", Terumi Tanaka, called on the international community to unite to eliminate nuclear weapons as quickly as possible. The organization, founded in 1956, has consistently sent resolutions and appeals to the UN, advocating a complete ban on nuclear weapons.
