Turkmenistan is actively preparing for the start of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The country, elected vice-chairman of the upcoming session, plans to put forward a number of important initiatives aimed at strengthening peace, security and sustainable development. The Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Key proposals include the development of a Global Security Strategy, the creation of a training programme for UN global mediators and the initiation of a Global Framework for the Transition to a Circular Economy.
Turkmenistan emphasizes its commitment to the principles of neutrality and preventive diplomacy, as well as its intention to continue working on the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The country plans to pay special attention to climate, transport, energy security and humanitarian issues.
In particular, Turkmenistan proposes to create a Regional Centre for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia and to continue work on the establishment of a UN Special Programme for the Aral Sea Basin.
