The Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan summed up the results of the elections to the Mejlis

A meeting of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan was held today in Ashgabat. The main issue on the agenda was summing up the results of the elections of deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, held on July 7 in three electoral districts of the capital: No. 1 Garaşsyzlyk, No. 2 Bitaraplyk and No. 6 Köpetdag, the press service of the Central Election Commission reports.

According to the chairman of the election commission of the city of Ashgabat, the elections were held on the basis of democratic principles, in conditions of alternativeness and transparency. Voting was carried out at 60 polling stations from 07:00 to 19:00. In addition, early voting was organized from June 27 to July 6 from 08:00 to 18:00.

Voter turnout was high: out of 86 641 registered voters, 79 121 people took part in the elections, which amounted to 91,32% of the total number of citizens eligible to vote.

In accordance with the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, three candidates applied for each seat, which ensured the alternative nature of the elections. As a result of voting, out of 9 candidates, 3 deputies were elected who received a majority of votes. According to current legislation, the list of elected deputies will be published in the coming days.

The progress of the elections at all stages was monitored by 76 national observers appointed by political parties and public organizations of Turkmenistan. In their reports, observers noted the high organizational level of the elections and the absence of violations.

At the end of the meeting, Chairman of the Central Election Commission Gulmurat Muradov expressed gratitude to all participants in the electoral process for organizing the elections, as well as to representatives of the media for prompt coverage of the election campaign.
