National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at a meeting in the SCO+ format in Astana emphasized the strategic position of Turkmenistan in major transport projects. Chairman Halk Maslahaty expressed his readiness to cooperate with the SCO states in a variety of formats, TDH reports.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov focused on the transport and transit corridor running through Central Asia from China to Europe and the Middle East, clarifying that we are talking about the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey route.
“For its effective functioning, it will be necessary to resolve, among other things, issues related to cross-border movement of goods. We should be talking, in our opinion, about creating a most favored nation regime for transport communications, providing tariff, customs and other preferences at border crossing points,” emphasized the National Leader of the Turkmen people.
They also expressed readiness for a specific discussion of these issues with interested parties.
Chairman Halk Maslahaty named the North-South corridor along the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea through Turkmenbashi and further south to Iranian ports as another significant combined route with the participation of Turkmenistan and the SCO countries.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also emphasized that the SCO countries can play a key role in uniting the resource, economic and transport potentials of the region, including Central Asia, India and Pakistan.
