When organizing the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, on June 22, a special meeting “Historical and cultural values that unite peoples” was held online, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great thinker and poet of the East, the founder of Turkmen classical literature, Magtymguly Fragi.
As reported on the Mejlis website, the meeting was attended by representatives of the parliaments of Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Iran, as well as the director of the Regional Office of the specialized agency of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Almaty, executive secretary National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY).
The main goal of the special meeting is to celebrate at the parliamentary level the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Fragi, develop friendly relations between fraternal peoples and expand the scope of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
During the meeting, speeches were made by the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Chinar Rustemova, the Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev, the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty Amir Pirich, as well as speakers from the countries participating in the meeting.
The meeting participants noted that the consistent holding of such international events is important in the development of cultural, humanitarian relations and relations of friendship and brotherhood between states and peoples of the world, expanding the scope of inter-parliamentary cooperation, the source notes.
