The Danish national team players set an inspiring example of gender equality. They rejected a proposed salary increase to ensure a fairer distribution of revenue to the women’s team.

According to the Fifpro trade union, this decision was the result of the players’ desire for equal pay for men and women, reports daily.afisha.ru with reference to the Independent.

The agreement stipulates that from now on basic payments for performances in the national team will be the same for everyone, regardless of gender.

In addition, insurance payments for the men’s team will be reduced by 15%. These funds will be redirected to increase insurance for female football players by 50%, as well as for the youth men’s team – by more than 40%.

“This is an extraordinary step that will help improve conditions within the women’s national teams. Instead of looking for better conditions for themselves, the players thought about supporting the women’s team,” said Spillerforeningen director Michael Sal Hansen.

The saved funds will be directed to a special fund, which will be used in the future for the development of football. Football players themselves will be able to make proposals for the use of these funds, for example, for the construction of sports facilities or support for players.
