The 15th Meeting of Heads of Railway Administrations and the 9th meeting of the Railway Committee for Coordination of Transit Transportation of the Economic Cooperation Organization member countries took place in Tehran.
Turkmenistan was represented at the events by the chairman of the Turkmendemirellary agency, Azat Atamuradov, reports the MIC.
The Turkmen side spoke about the efforts of the country's leadership to integrate the national transport system into the global communication infrastructure and create large logistics centers to coordinate multimodal transport in the region.
Particular emphasis was placed on the Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran railway, which is of strategic importance for the revival of the Great Silk Road. The great potential of this corridor for increasing cargo turnover and developing trade between the countries of Central Asia, the Caspian Basin and neighboring regions was noted.
The Economic Cooperation Organization has carried out analytical work to remove barriers on the KTI corridor. This will significantly increase its attractiveness and create opportunities to increase exports to the countries of the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia.
“Transit cargo transportation from Europe through the territory of Turkmenistan to the countries of the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf is three times shorter than through the Suez Canal,” the MIC publication notes.
