Venezuela is the first country in the world to lose its last glacier.

The glacier, unfortunately, did not stand the test of time and severe climate change. Its area has shrunk so much that scientists were forced to transfer it to another category - an ice field. The melting process occurred much faster than experts predicted. The area of the ice block was reduced to less than two hectares.

It is worth noting that until recently, before environmental changes, there were six glaciers in this Latin American country. However, by 2011, five of them had already disappeared forever.

The disappearance of the last glacier in Venezuela, caused by temperature fluctuations beyond the norm for tropical latitudes, may become one of the critical points for the Earth's cryosphere. Mail.ru reports this with reference to Phobos.
